corners of my home::astrid's bed

Img_2693

Until just recently, this corner of our home went largely unused.  It's only in the last two weeks that I've grown to love this spot and that's because it's only in the last two weeks that Astrid has begun sleeping there and, more significantly, sleeping through the night there.

I've always liked sleep but never in my life have I appreciated sleep so much as I've come to in the past two years.  With Astrid we never really got too far past that hazy newborn stage, the stage where life seems blurry around the edges from lack of sleep.  First, she was a newborn and then she was a babe with reflux and then she was a babe who'd never known any kind of rhythm when it came to sleep and as time wore on the sleep hurdle grew higher and was ever present.  There were small strides but they never hung together or amounted to much.

And then Dan and I suddenly came to the end of our rope.  Luckily for all involved, our rope ending coincided with Astrid being ready to leap that sleep hurdle.  Funny how life often works out like that.  Things coalesce and create a forward momentum and before you know it, you've moved on to the next thing.  Happily, that next thing is sleep.  Let me just tell you, sleep rocks!

I wasn't around at the start of Corners of My Home so don't know exactly how "home" was defined but I'm thinking of broadening what I believe was intended.  Something along the lines of a Corner's of My Neighborhood or Town or City.  Making "home" more than just the structure I live in.  I don't know that I'll start another Flickr group but I think here on Sara + h the corners of my home may start getting more far flung.

unhinged

We're having the exterior of our house painted.  The painters descended on our house like a swarm of bees on Monday and the constant noise (scrapping, banging, tapping on windows...) as well as having people climbing all over the house and peering in the doors and windows has me coming undone.  I don't consider myself an overly private person but I do have my boundaries and this is crossing over them.  We've had various tradespeople work on our house before but never has if felt like such an invasion of my and my family's personal space.  I'm one big ball of stress.  I'm not sure what another week (or more if we have bad weather) of this is going to do to my sanity.

I don't anticipate getting all that much crafting done with the exception of therapeutic washcloth knitting.  I do have to make several aprons for Lola's school which begins on 9/5 but since I chose neither the fabric nor the design I'm not sure I'll be sharing any pictures of them.  Expect many non craft related posts over the course of the next week or so.

For today, here are some pics of a few of the corners of my home, literally.  More Corners of My Home here.  Also, having been late to join A Year of Color, I'll be revisiting each of the colors I missed here.  These pictures obviously cover week one's theme, white.

corners of my home::lola's room

Img_0802 Really just a lot of pictures of one corner of my home.  It's the corner of Lola's room where she and her sister cook, clean, and rock, among other things.  The list of their escapades in just this one corner is nearly endless.

After living in this house for over two years we only just got around to painting Lola's room.  She insisted that the color be the same as it was in her old room in Massachusetts and so Rhubarb (Benjamin Moore color #2007-30) it was.

I love the coral-y red color and how it changes over the course of the day as the light in the room changes but I'm conflicted about it being such a stimulating color.  I would've loved to have done something more along the lines of what Claire used as inspiration for Lily's room Img_0804 (I have a deep and abiding love of the color orange--that orange parisol makes me swoon) but Lola was stedfast in her desire for rhubarb colored walls. I briefly considered using it for an accent wall and choosing something more mellow for the rest of the room, but simple though that idea may be, it was totally beyond me.  I couldn't come up with a complimentary color that fit the bill (remember, mellow) nor could I decide which wall the accent wall should be.  So, all four walls are rhubarb.  I just hope that when Astrid finally moves out of our room and in with her sister that the color doesn't mess with her already screwed up sleep.
